Ingredients

Brownie Batter
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 4 large large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (optional)

Equipment

  • 9x13 inch baking pan
  • Medium saucepan
  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk
  • Spatula
  • Parchment paper (optional)

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan, or line with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over low heat.
Mixing
  1. Remove the melted butter from heat and stir in the granulated sugar and unsweetened cocoa powder until well combined.
  2. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth and glossy.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, salt, and baking powder.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined; do not overmix. Fold in chocolate chips if desired.
Baking
  1. Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
  2. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs.
Serving
  1. Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan before cutting them into squares and serving.

Notes

Be careful not to overbake the brownies, as this can make them dry. For fudgier brownies, bake until the toothpick comes out with moist crumbs, not completely clean.
