Preparation
- Rinse the fresh cranberries thoroughly under cold water and discard any soft or bruised berries.
- Combine the cranberries, sugar, and water (or orange juice) in a medium saucepan.
Cooking
- Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
- Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer for about 10-15 minutes, or until the cranberries burst and the sauce thickens.
Finishing
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the cranberry sauce cool to room temperature.
- The sauce will thicken further as it cools; serve chilled or at room temperature.
Notes
For extra flavor, add a pinch of cinnamon or orange zest during the last few minutes of cooking.
