  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water or orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest (optional)

Method
 

Instructions
  1. Combine cranberries, sugar, and water (or orange juice) in a medium saucepan.
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
  3. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until cranberries burst and the sauce thickens.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in orange zest, if using.
  5. Let the sauce cool to room temperature, then refrigerate until chilled and ready to serve.

Notes

For a smoother sauce, you can mash some of the cranberries with a fork. Adjust sugar to your taste preference. Can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator for up to a week.
