Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a loaf pan.
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, milk, chopped onion, salt, and black pepper. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
Assembly
- Press half of the meat mixture into the bottom of the prepared loaf pan.
- Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the first layer of meat.
- Top the cheese with the cooked and crumbled bacon.
- Carefully spread the remaining meat mixture over the bacon layer, sealing the edges.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the ketchup, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce. Spread this glaze evenly over the top of the meatloaf.
Baking
- Bake for 60 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
- Let the meatloaf rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
For extra flavor, try adding a pinch of garlic powder or your favorite herbs to the meat mixture. You can also customize the layers with other ingredients like sautéed mushrooms or spinach.
