  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 3 cups vegetable oil for frying

Equipment

  • Cutting board
  • Knife
  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk
  • Deep pan or Dutch oven
  • Tongs
  • Wire rack
  • Paper towels

Method

Preparation
  1. Peel and slice the onion into 1/2-inch thick rings, separating them.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. In another bowl, beat the egg and milk together.
Cooking
  1. Dip each onion ring into the egg mixture, then dredge in the flour mixture, ensuring it's fully coated.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan or Dutch oven to 350°F (175°C).
  3. Fry onion rings in batches for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
  4. Remove from oil and place on a wire rack lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
Serving
  1. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

For extra crispiness, you can double dip the onion rings in the egg and flour mixture. Do not overcrowd the pan while frying to maintain oil temperature and ensure even cooking. Leftover onion rings can be reheated in an oven or air fryer to restore crispiness.
