Basic Stuffing Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Sauté celery and onion in butter until softened, then stir in sage and thyme and cook for 1 minute more.
- Pour in chicken broth and bring to a simmer, then remove from heat and stir in the stuffing mix until well combined.
- Divide the basic stuffing mixture into four separate bowls or sections to prepare for variations.
Variations
- **Cranberry-Pecan Stuffing:** Mix dried cranberries and chopped pecans into the first portion of basic stuffing.
- **Sausage-Apple Stuffing:** Combine cooked crumbled sausage and chopped apples with the second portion of basic stuffing.
- **Mushroom-Spinach Stuffing:** Fold sliced mushrooms and fresh spinach into the third portion of basic stuffing.
- **Cornbread-Oyster Stuffing:** Stir crumbled cornbread and shucked oysters into the fourth portion of basic stuffing.
Baking
- Transfer each stuffing variation into a separate baking dish.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and heated through.
Notes
For extra flavor, you can use homemade chicken broth. Feel free to experiment with other herbs like rosemary or parsley. If you prefer a moister stuffing, add a little more broth during baking.
