Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 egg
For Brushing
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter

Equipment

  • large bowl
  • whisk
  • baking sheet
  • parchment paper
  • clean kitchen towel

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. Whisk these dry ingredients together until well combined.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the warm milk, melted butter, and egg.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until a shaggy dough forms. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5-7 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic.
Rising and Baking
  1. Divide the dough into 4 equal portions and shape each into a round roll. Place the rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving some space between each.
  2. Cover the rolls with a clean kitchen towel and let them rise in a warm place for 15-20 minutes, or until they have visibly doubled in size.
  3. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  4. Bake the rolls for 15-20 minutes, or until they are golden brown on top and cooked through.
  5. Once baked, immediately brush the tops of the hot rolls with melted butter for extra flavor and shine.

Notes

For an extra golden-brown crust, you can brush the rolls with an egg wash (1 egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water) before baking. These rolls are best served warm, fresh out of the oven.
