Preparation
- Rinse the rice under cold water until it runs clear, then set it aside to drain.
- Heat butter or olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat; sauté chopped onion until softened, about 3-5 minutes, then add minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
Cooking
- Stir in the rinsed rice, coating it with the butter and aromatics, and toast for 2-3 minutes until slightly translucent.
- Pour in the broth, salt, and pepper; bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover tightly, and simmer for 15-20 minutes until all liquid is absorbed and rice is tender.
Rest and Serve
- Remove the saucepan from heat and let it rest, covered, for 5-10 minutes to allow the rice to finish steaming.
- Fluff the pilaf with a fork and serve hot as a delicious side dish.
Notes
For extra flavor, add a bay leaf or a pinch of saffron to the broth. You can also toast a handful of vermicelli pasta with the rice for added texture before adding the broth. For a richer taste, use homemade broth. To prevent sticking, avoid lifting the lid during the simmering process.
