Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and lightly grease a 9x9 inch baking pan or a 10-inch cast-iron skillet.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
Mixing and Baking
- In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, and melted butter.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined; be careful not to overmix, as this can lead to tough cornbread.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean and the top is golden brown.
Serving
- Remove from the oven and let it cool in the pan for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
For an extra touch of sweetness, you can add 1/4 cup of honey or maple syrup to the wet ingredients. You can also add 1/2 cup of fresh or frozen corn kernels to the batter for added texture and flavor.
