Ingredients

Main Dough
  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.5 cup milk, lukewarm
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted

Equipment

  • large bowl
  • whisk
  • baking dish
  • plastic wrap

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt.
  2. Gradually add the lukewarm milk and melted butter to the dry ingredients, mixing until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Shaping and Baking
  1. Gently punch down the risen dough and divide it into three equal pieces.
  2. Shape each piece into a smooth, round ball and place them in a greased baking dish, leaving some space between them.
  3. Cover the rolls loosely with plastic wrap and let them rise again for 20-30 minutes, until visibly puffy.
  4. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) during the second rise.
  5. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown on top and sound hollow when tapped.

Notes

For extra shine, brush the baked rolls with a little melted butter immediately after removing them from the oven.
