- Peel and quarter the potatoes, then cut the garlic cloves in half. Place them in a large pot and cover with cold water.
- Bring the water to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are fork-tender.
- Drain the cooked potatoes and garlic thoroughly. Return them to the pot and mash them with a potato masher until mostly smooth.
- Incorporate the softened butter and warm milk (or cream) into the mashed potatoes. Stir until creamy and smooth.
- Season generously with salt and black pepper to taste. Serve hot as a delicious side dish.
Notes
For an extra decadent touch, try using half-and-half or heavy cream instead of whole milk. You can also roast the garlic cloves before adding them to the pot for a deeper, sweeter garlic flavor.
