Main Ingredients
  • 2 lbs Potatoes (e.g., Russet or Yukon Gold)
  • 4-5 Garlic cloves
  • 1/2 cup Unsalted butter (1 stick)
  • 1/2 cup Whole milk or heavy cream (warmed)
  • 1 teaspoon Salt (or to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black pepper (or to taste)

Equipment

  • Large pot
  • Potato masher
  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring spoons

Method

Instructions
  1. Peel and quarter the potatoes, then cut the garlic cloves in half. Place them in a large pot and cover with cold water.
  2. Bring the water to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are fork-tender.
  3. Drain the cooked potatoes and garlic thoroughly. Return them to the pot and mash them with a potato masher until mostly smooth.
  4. Incorporate the softened butter and warm milk (or cream) into the mashed potatoes. Stir until creamy and smooth.
  5. Season generously with salt and black pepper to taste. Serve hot as a delicious side dish.

Notes

For an extra decadent touch, try using half-and-half or heavy cream instead of whole milk. You can also roast the garlic cloves before adding them to the pot for a deeper, sweeter garlic flavor.
