  • 2 teaspoons Baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/4 cup Sugar
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup Milk
  • 1 Egg
  • 1/4 cup Vegetable oil

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and grease an 8x8 inch baking pan. In a large bowl, whisk together cornmeal, flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
Mixing
  1. In a separate bowl, whisk together milk, egg, and vegetable oil. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix.

Notes

For a sweeter cornbread, add an extra tablespoon of sugar. To make it savory, add shredded cheese or chopped jalapeños to the batter.
