Ingredients

Cake
  • 1 Boxed yellow cake mix (15.25 ounces)
  • 3 large Eggs
  • 1 cup Milk
  • 1/2 cup Vegetable oil
Tres Leches Mixture
  • 1 can Evaporated milk (12 ounces)
  • 1 can Condensed milk (14 ounces)
  • 1/2 cup Heavy cream
Topping
  • 1 pint Heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup Powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • Fresh berries for garnish (optional)

Equipment

  • 9x13 inch baking pan
  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk
  • Electric mixer (optional)
  • Fork

Method

Bake the Cake
  1. Prepare the cake mix according to package directions, typically by combining the mix with eggs, milk, and vegetable oil; then pour the batter into a greased 9x13 inch baking pan and bake as directed.
Prepare and Pour the Tres Leches
  1. While the cake cools, whisk together the evaporated milk, condensed milk, and 1/2 cup of heavy cream; once the cake is slightly warm, poke holes over the entire surface with a fork and slowly pour the milk mixture evenly over the cake, allowing it to soak in.
Whip the Topping & Serve
  1. In a cold bowl, beat the remaining 1 pint of heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form; spread this whipped cream over the soaked cake and optionally garnish with fresh berries before serving chilled.

Notes

For best results, allow the cake to chill for at least 4 hours, or overnight, to fully absorb the milk mixture and enhance its moist texture.
